Workshop- Hybrid

Hybrid- 7th December 2016
Audio induction and editing
Beginning of the audio aspect of hybrid. Induction to equipment for recording and software for editing the audio. Vital for myself due to the lack of media arts work before hand. Already, through these workshops i am able to see how an expansion of my work could come through use of sound and footage along with poetry to accompany and enhance activism. I decided to collect audio from a musical instrument (xylophone) in a busy shopping centre, this allowed a foreground and background to experiment with editing both aspects. Also, it allowed an interesting pitch to be provided. The concept of the shopping centre lead my thoughts down the path of consumerism and the fact that each moment is vital to economic situation and global change (environmentally, socially and economically). The specific sound bytes from the shopping centre therefore metaphorically encapsulate a moment. That although small to those present, is making history. The mundane of others ‘everyday’ but the repeated thought within my own brain. Therefore, I was interested in the visual aspect of the edited audio created. The following images are versions of moments. Vast. Everyday.
