Compounding practice research and future plans

My recent research is focusing upon historical involvement with socially engaged and political/social art work. This was heavily influenced through my recent visit to Italy and viewing of a lot of Historical architecture and artistic documentation/worship. Much of the mediums of this I plan to try to imitate and appropriate for my own work.  Such as mosaics and marble (effect/influenced) style. These were expensive ways that were used historically to create art and document events or types of worship. This was then placed on walls, ceilings and floors (often mosaic was done directly onto the surface). The holistic use of the place is inspiring my practice to surround the viewer with an experience. Therefore I have begun to consider the gallery setting and how unsuitable this may be. This is how my research and practice combine,  issues my work tries to raise (environmental issues and the greatly threatened natural world and human survival) have being investigated for centuries and art work produced also. the modern need to raise awareness is therefore greater and creativity is a vital tool to do so. The use of the space to overwhelm the viewer would allow this, and allow them to gain a true sense of what is at stake. The natural world deserves appreciation and protection and that which sustains life for humans. However, opposition to not only human survival but even the need for change is constant and a rising movement is aiming to alter this. My work aims to be a part of this through using historical style and techniques to remind the viewer of the ongoing battle often overlooked day to day. The historical irony is showed metaphorically though using techniques from the past.
