Workshop- Print (advanced)

Advanced Workshop
Print
Tuesday 7th March

Within this project, we will explore the potential for making halftones and full-colour screen-prints using the methods outlined above. We will also start to consider the potential for screen-print to become part of a multi-media installation by making small 3D printed objects.

This workshop was of great value when considering why the print process was being used. Throughout we were encouraged to consider this, to understand why we have chosen this method. I had chosen this method and plan to use the method partly to add to the concept of historical irony, the poems and images I plan to use within the prints have historical ties. Therefore, translating these into a more modern method is ironic due to the contrast that develops.

Secondly, the hand made process is also something that interests me. Production of the works by hand means they have passed through myself not only practically, but mentally. Psychological interaction with the works and process adds a sense of depth to the humanitarian concepts and themes behind my work. Later, when others interact with the piece, they have psychologically engaged. This ties to my research into 'the minds trace' and the psychology behind each thought movement and behavior and how such can be altered for the better. Unconscious worldviews are in dire need of change before improvement can be made, therefore, these works are a development as to how I may achieve such. These reflections are all self evaluation as to how I can develop my work to embody the concepts and metaphors I aim to.
Finally, the layering of the print on to another surface offers an interesting concept. The unconscious develops as experience from the past, beliefs and other information is absorbed, thus forming a complicated area of the brain. Print, due to its many layers offers  similar build, adding arts and removing others.
