Exploration and engagement
-Ed Rusha-
-Art has a beauty of resonating with the unconscious and the relationship within us that is unexplained. When using text within this the relationship is changed. The direct message is added to however the ethereal interaction is lessened. Text within work is often associated with the Dada movement and their direct approach.
-The rise of cinema brought about idea of text and image separated and the association formed separately. Word based communication grew.
-Rene Magritte- Treason of images, a moving point for the related register of images and words. Verbal and conceptual crossover allowing a new communication through artistic practice and thought.
-When language is involved within a work the artist has work more to involve the viewer, this effort is vital for the viewer to make more effort with the art. As we pass word we naturally start to read the words or sentence, this almost tricks the viewer into engagement. This is why I aim to use poetry within my work, to influence the viewers time and thoughts when viewing work.
-Text within art has a direct crossover into graphics and the politics of print. The graphics chosen can influence a viewers interpretation of the writing/title. The media is an example of this, publication using old style text to gain trust of the viewer through historical respect. These psychological tricks often work, this is why new media is vital to reduce vested interest in print and news media.
