Investigation of the historical beliefs of nature and natural forces within the mind. This work also looks, in depth, about how the brain and mind differ. this is of great interest due to the fact that the mind is seemingly what may house the subconscious and the brain may house the lesser aware self indulgence of the ID.
This work is based on my ever continued drive to truly connect and have a deepened understanding of psychological functioning. However, as I do such research I learn that the ties that need to be made and the links I am hoping to find are not areas of research already. Much work has been done within separate spheres, however, combining all of this is not yet complete. Work regarding art, nature, the unconscious and society/politics rarely intertwine within studies. This doesn't stop me trying to visually and artistically interpret them. Further to this, educating myself within each aspect is also vital to try and have a holistic view of my aim and practice. I produced this piece in response to colour analysis within the brain and that the blue and red are two very intuitive colours. Both have evidence of aiding different aspects of attention within children, therefore I was hoping that such would be true within this specific piece of art. this is therefore why the work is aesthetically pleasing. to initially attract the viewer. Then, progression can be made to add depth to that connection. A current poetry piece I am working on is the next stage to such and these works act together as a series.
Here is a more up close detail picture of the work. It shows the hand drawn tree I completed with a gold pen (many gold pens). This process was done in my flat with view of many trees, however one stands out due to the fact the top is thinner. This was my inspiration and I found that as I drew memory took over as I have seen this tree everyday for nearly a year.
This connection was progressive to me and allowed me to further engage with the idea that nature can have a truly lasting effect upon an individual. this, to me, is all the more reason to protect and cherish our planet. The issue with this work was that as I drew I found I was not going to have the entire tree within the frame. therefore the cropping occurred unintentionally. I found this interesting and see it as a metaphorical embodiment of the box around nature that modern societal and government stance is holding and swiftly moving toward.

“Man must persist in his belief that the incomprehensible is comprehensible, otherwise he would cease to explore.”
“The highest happiness of a rational being is to have explored what is explorable and quietly to revere what is inexplorable.” Johan Wolfgang von Goethe
