The Metaphysical Poets
Introduced and edited by Helen Gardener
The aesthetics of a book.
The contents of a book.
The meaning of a book.
Beginning this book lead to question all aspects of its existence. The contents, arguably, is only one part of the book itself. As I had borrowed it from a friend I learnt he had found it in a second hand shop however the existence since 1961 would suggest many a more hand had passed over the pages. Therefore, the works gain much more meaning, they become all that was ever thought, spoken or written of them. the reference to historical importance is vital within the book due to many of the poets being labelled 'metaphysical' after their passing.
This therefore ties well into my essay regarding historical irony.
