Franco 'Bifo' Berardi

'Franco 'Bifo' Berardi is a writer and theorist based in Bologna. His work revolves mainly around the aesthetics of the contemporary psychosphere. His latest books include Futurability, Phenomenology of the End, and The Soul at Work. In the 1970s he was one of the founders of the pirate radio station Radio Alice, the magazine A/traverso and of the political movement Autonomia. He has worked across media such as books, magazines, radio, TV and cinema.' (Verso)

Berardi's work has many themes and concepts that not only interest me but that I can see emerging within my own practice. The 'psychospehers' he investigates and talks of are similar to the willful blindness psychological state my work aims to either visualise or reveal to the viewer. His work's outstanding nature and depth of understanding will hopefully help me to progress in terms of theorising how I can produce or mold a practice that is progressive. Research in and around political theory and conceptual theory can help my work become less ignorant to the issues it talks of and tackles. Education is key and to self educate is to make an effort, this efforts ongoing nature is hopefully something that will help my work (writing, visual or spoken word) to emerge into field of progression and progressive art figure. The creative and differing outlook Berardi holds is something my work speaks of a lot, the creative differences allowing political and social situations to be viewed in a different light than that of the classic capitalist grasp. The problems being churned out and recognised by society are not being risen against and this issue is possibly internal. The visualisation of these issues however is not something that his work looks into yet my own hopefully can start to metaphorically expose these themes and thoughts. Although critisced for having a less obvious link between written and visual work, the visual side is vital to not only offer psychological therapy to the eye but to expose the creative possibility behind thoughts when presented with such far reaching and complicated social issues.
