Exhibition Planning, concepts and begining
Rosea//PinkOverlooking connotation and allowing a mutli-disciplinary approach to exhibition.
This 6 day exhibition is home to artists responding to a singular word. The opportune exhibition showcases diversity within art and single handedly demonstrates the individualistic response to the same starting point. What does this demonstrate of each individual’s psyche? As the exhibition unfolds, a psychogeographic map emerges of the resident artists and their own practices. Where does this sit in a world saturated with connotation and preempted meaning? Reclaiming the word as a theme demonstrates the linguistic power to spark inspiration and creatively expose the viewer to the place in which Pink finds itself. Starting 9/11/17.
The above exhibition summary was written by myself. Within the exhibition I will be contributing written work within the publication and exhibition overview. Further to this, I have organised for an arts writer to come to the exhibition opening to give an outside review of the works and react to the exhibition. Although I did not plan this exhibition I have taken on a admin style role with written work and publicity. This is something I enjoy, further to this, the organisers wanted everyone to have an active role within the exhibition. I will also be contributing a piece of work under the broad theme of 'Pink'.
Possible Plans for exhibition contribution-
The final concept decided upon is the 3rd sketch. The 'time capsule' concept has locked a relick of the time. The linear formation of plants, suspended in capitalism. The title of the work 'Progressiv schöpferische Zerstörung' is in reference to 'creative destruction'. This stems from economic theory. According to Schumpeter, the "gale of creative destruction" describes the "process of industrial mutation that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one". Therefore, this references both the old and new, a suspense between the two. Preserved yet transparent.
Process
The flowers will be pressed in a more spread out formation as seen above. This pressing will flatten them to sit within the glass and also preserve the flowers. The reasoning for using flowers is not only in reference to ecology but also to inflate the concept of a 'time capsule' and the preservation of a natural formation. The economy within the country is put above the natural preservation of many natural forms. Therefore, the titles economic reference is mocking the futuristic setting of this piece.
