Independent Project- Film Collaboration (Ongoing)
Film Collaboration start date 2nd October 2017
Collaborative Project with Holly Davies-independent film maker
Holly Davies is an independent film maker who I will be collaborating with to produce a short film in response to some of the themes my work tackles. The work she produces is mostly emotive film pieces that rely heavily on the audio to transport the viewer toward a new depth of understanding. There is no dialogue within her work as she intends on the visual and audio aspect to speak to the viewers. Her work is the embodiment of aesthetic connectivity, using both the audio and visual to metaphorically interpret.
2nd October
Initial meeting and brainstorming session to talk about our own intentions for the project and what we both can bring together. We have differing skills and therefore both add what the other may possibly lack. My conceptualisation of the film is met with her practical and technical skills to hopefully make a work that allows a multidisciplinary piece to stand alone away from fine art or film. This fluid medium is a type of travelling concept allowing politics to flow across art and hopefully reach those missed through traditional means.
Film Concept- Regrouping and societal deterioration
The work will have a very political backing with much of my writing/concepts forming the starting points for scenes of the film. As we brainstormed it became apparent that my concepts cover such broad areas that this condensed to a short film would be difficult, therefore the idea of individualism and collectivism was pinpointed a a very well visualised aspect. Holly was very interested in using this concept to visually represent the way in which society has been moving over time. Many ideas flew about and the fact I was sat talking with someone else was very useful to that process. Another idea arose of the diversity of age we could present within the film allowing this to metaphorically show the passing of generation and the changes (or lack off) that have taken place over time. This movement of people up and down the stairs and mergence of them will show how historical issues still stand and the passage of time. We then discussed other scene's, possibly a que of some sort of more people in line. This draws in themes of obedience and also consumerism as ques often suggest that people are buying something.
The ideas that flowed were very inspirational and gave me a lot of drive to experiment this year greatly with media. The collaborative process allows me to do this, I had been reluctant to use film until now due to my majorly limited skills in editing. Working together gives me access to other ideas and concepts. We also discussed the idea of a public screening and also a exhibition screening with others on the course who use film work or similar themes to my own. I would aim to produce some sort of publication or writing to accompany the work as the lack of script relies heavily on interpretation. I would want to offer information to the viewer of further readings or information that greatly influenced us in producing the work.
