13th November- Mid-unit review content/reflections
13th November-
-Sound investigations/experimentation
-Hans Ulrich Obrist- Curation
-Large scale work experimentation
-Text and physical relationship
Reflections
The mid-unit review is so short that it is difficult to fully explain all my projects let alone talk fully about what is the best was to advance and continue. Therefore, there were minimal suggestions made to how I can advance, although, with this, I do feel confident within my work so do not crave a great deal of leadership. There are areas that the tutor shows specific interest such as large scale work or sound consideration. The sound experimentation would come as a result of the need to vocalise and add a physical aspect to the poetry that I write. The poetry could come in sound layers, this can then be put in a gallery space of a physical space.
As we discussed the ethics of art we got onto the topic f travel and air miles. The residencies that are given out around the world not only take a lot of air miles but energy to transport work. Therefore, I would put that money toward a community project for a day in the gallery with people working to produce work like my own. This would be more valuable than exhibiting my own work hundreds of miles away from the context in which it was made. Hans Ulrich Obrist was then suggested to me to investigate this concept. This may be a good example for my essay.
The scale of my work was also something that was considered within the meeting, the progression toward large scale work is something that would interest me. This work would have much more presence within a space and be a more direct way convey a message. The scale of my work was not something that I had extensively considered. The small scale of the tiles is more of a practical aspect of the practice than a commentary on anything. Also, the small scale allowed them to be picked up and interacted with. However, if the large scale piece had writing on it instead of with it then this encourages interaction.
