'experimenting with radical new forms of art. Directed by Steveni, the APG pioneered the concept of art in the social context. From the outset their notion of ‘placement’ acknowledged the marginalised position of the artist and sought to improve the situation. By enabling artists to engage actively in non-art environments, the APG shifted the function of art towards ‘decision-making’.'

The APG removed artists from the very specific art world and integrated them in other fields. This is something that my own work considers a lot. The 'use' of artists and creative thinkers in field where that same creative thinking is needed or lacking. As certain training can be very rigid, the minds that are then produced are very similar. The resident artists were to function within the surrounding and they were not there to produce art for that environment. A series of films and documentation came about as a result of this work and it was an investigation into the possibilities of an outside gallery creative workforce.

This initiative had a lot of popularity abroad, specifically in germany. It acted as a framework and catalyst for artist to be resident and hired into non classically creative spaces. The spreading of these creative and alternative minds could help solve many issues and creatively overcome issues with less compromise be that economical or environmental/social. Organisations such as Julie's bicycle within the Uk are championing a mixture of creativity and sustainability, it is this relational understanding that is new and important. The relationship directly between creative thinking and progression or change.
