11th January-
Own Exhibition opening (install)

Today saw my work installed as part of the 'unveiled truths' exhibition at NUA. This was my part exhibiting in the interim exhibition task. The curators of my work were incredibly helpful and allowed my work to flourish into what I had envisioned for it. I was in uni early to help with installation. There were many problems and challenges to overcome, including health and safety as well as positioning and placement.
These were all overcome in time to leave the exhibition ready for viewing.
It was therefore a long day. All the curators had made events on facebook prior to this to gain interest in the opening night. The opening night was intended to take place this evening however, after waiting all day, very few people turned up, including the curation group themselves. This was disappointing to say the least. I felt let down as the entire meaning of the exhibition is to have viewer interaction. Without an opening night, when the majority of people see the work, relational aesthetics is lost massively.

My Work In The Exposition

The display of the work also uses a ink pad that is intended for people to place a finger in and then leaf through the work or ideally read the work. Their fingerprint will then be left upon the paper, this displays the irreversible influence of the viewer as well as oil companies print on government decisions and action. This interactive exhibition contains a place for the individual to sit as they view the work and a prop lamp that is not plugged in. This formal desk setting is meant to echo the corporate environment in which many of the documents conclusion stems from. I also used one of my clay works as a weight for the paper. This visual sculpture is reminiscent of lobbying practices, which often influence the decisions made surrounding oil companies and legislation. There is an irony therefore in that very fluid, visual sculpture that acts as a psychological catharsis compared to a government document. The work suited the themes of 'unveiled truths' as it aimed to  uncover some of the contradictions and injustices within the governments documents and decisions.  This impact is only measurable through the fingerprints on each page. It will be interesting to see the level of interaction with the work and to see if anyone reads the document fully.
