'How text lives' Film planning, research and reflections
Ongoing Ba2a-Ba2b
Today I have been contemplating how I may develop my investigation into 'how text lives'. I was in conversation with Oliver Saunders and Fay Nichols who was my tutor last year. I was expressing the fact my work is aiming to be an active entity yet the subject matter is often very inaccessible. This is due to the complicated political system and artistic language underpinning my own understanding. therefore I was trying to develop a more accessible aid. Possibly a body of tet that I then 'translate' into differing forms. Reminiscent of the Interim show work when I 'translated' the government document. Oliver is head of the performance art's society so I was discussing the possibility of a collaboration regarding a type of reading. This would develop the audio access to my work. I could then go on to develop the physical access through braille. Finally, the possibility of engaging in a live writing of the work to show the visuality of the words. Translating the text and engaging the performance art society would not only integrate other artists but start a collective style involvement. I am planning this work carefully as well as researching it due to the fact I do not want to rush into collaboration this time without consideration of all factors. The last collaborative process was amazing conceptually however the interpersonal relations lacked occasionally and I do not wish for this to happen again. Therefore, I feel the need to immerse myself in the possibilities of this project. I have become slightly stunted with my tactile work recently until I receive feedback, therefore I feel investigating the imitations of the research world in art would really help me advance my own practice. I would like this to run simultaneously with ethical production consideration and collective conscious 'spreading' within the grass root level arts.
I am currently planning and making a film with an alumni of the university. Although this process has been slow and demanding(due to personal demands and limiting factors). This will fit perfectly with this project in terms of a new advancement in my body of work. Further to this, the next unit focuses on involvement and collaboration. This is vital in my commentary as I often refer to the opportunities allowed during this process.
