5th February- Studio presentation reflections

5th February-

Studio presentation reflections

These presentations were brief and entailed us discussing our own practice and work to a group. We started with a few other students and it was interesting to hear about work that I have not seen before and concepts that I solemn research.  These helped us also make links with other artists that we may possibly want to work with in the future. The Interim show was something else that did this. These connections being made are in time for the collaborative unit in which we develop our exterior portfolio. Done through shows or experimental works together. The idea of this is exciting as it will allow us to grow networks of relationships. within my own work I often talk of grass root level involvement, these relationships form the basis of this often. As we all presented our work and research the group fed back and asked questions. I do worry however that I spoke to much during mine and didn't receive as much feedback as possible. This is frustrating due to the fact I am at a real crossroad with my work and I hope others understand the intertwining relationship between research, practice and external action. Due to the fact my work is more based of a fluidity of praxis I hope this comes across throughout. What I did get from the session however is encouraging do develop 'how my text lives' which is something I have been grappling with for a lot of the year. Due to the demands of the essay work and placement recently I have not been able to get into the studio as much as possible however I plan to spend a lot of time there now (after hand in) and experiment with how I can present text and words visually and 'researcherly'. It is helpful to regularly talk out loud about your work as gaps emerge and suggests crop up that you had not considered or explored. It was suggested that I should think of making a film possibly. This is something I had considered before yet I am shocking at technological work. Therefore I feel these would live and die in an experimental form. However, there is not anything wrong with that. When I talk about my work in a group it becomes very obvious that I take the work very seriously, possibly to seriously. I need to let myself relax in terms of subject. The creative nature of the work can carry the concept fairy far without swamping it in contextualisation.
