Experimental 'research in motion'
After the presentations on monday I decided that after work today I wanted to use a large roll of paper to show my thought processes and visualise a 'research in motion'. My thinking and reflections are therefore transferred onto the paper with use of pastels to add colour along the way. This research in motion large scale reflection is better done toward the end of the unit and allows me to review much of my research (online/in my folder as you see in the time lapse). This review reminds me of certain points in time that were pivotal to the progress I have made over this unit. Interacting with the words and research in this very personal, sketchy way means that I am not treating them in an authored manner. The throw away nature of this task is interesting as I move along the paper fairly quickly. I found myself thinking back to what I produced last year and how I moved away from some things I really liked. This has lead me to reconsider certain visual decision snow my research is stronger and more able to hold up that personal visualisation. When I discuss this I am mainly referring to the 'mind traces' I conceptualised and produced a lot last year. However i was doing this in paint on a small scale. It is this aspect that was uniform to many preconceived Ideas of art and did not go with my research very well. I am now starting to think of how I can combine the past use of the trees and the current practice to form a new experimental tactile work. I enjoy taking time like this to work peacefully with words, colour and paper. It allows a re alignment of my practice with creative unknown. Whatever that may be. I think I am still at the beginning of 'lightening up' in terms of creativity and allowing my work to lead me sometimes. Now the essay work has been submitted I have a period of time that can dedicate to that. I think I need to stop labelling my work as much as I do. I think If I am to label the work then I should allow myself to discuss the fact that the work is an advocate for modern consciousness through many means.
