Exposition meeting (notes & reflections)

Yallops Norwich
(set up 28th April night, 30th April opening night, 1st open all day, take down in evening)

Today I met with Hannah and Holly who I am collaborating with in my How text Lives exposition. I have been calling it that due to the fact it is more an investigation into a theme and a method of research as practice than it is an exhibition of work that will live and die in the gallery space.
The meeting was very exciting and fruitful, unlike the research exposition, Fluid Praxis, that I am also curating and exhibition within this is a direct collaboration with people I have chosen. Therefore this naturally changes the work dynamic that is created. The ideas and information that was discussed bounced from one to another growing in vigour. The enthusiasm between us all to be working collaboratively and experimentally is very evident and we have planned to meet next week to touch base. I explained my vision and how each person sat within that vision. I gave them a copy of the piece of text I have written so they are free to edit it how they wish. This therefore removes authorship completely from myself and allows the text to live independently. We further discussed logistics, mainly dates and jobs needed along with ways to further the collaboration. This included me making a garment for hannah to wear during her performance. This would have the text sewn or printed onto it and act as a moving visualisation of the information. To further this, a photoshoot featuring this garment in very public places, pointing out the irony steeped in so much art. Working collaboratively will allow for this sort of development along with ideas surfacing that I independently would not have considered.
