29th March- Meeting with Hannah 'How text lives' Performance focus
29th March-
Meeting with Hannah
'How text lives'
Performance focus
Today I met with Hannah to discuss her performance and the garment she would like to wear. We mainly discussed the main features that this would need to have in order for her to be comfortable. This garment will have to be practical as well as a clear home to the text also. Therefore we decided it needs to be loose, freely fitting, washable, not to thick, a soft material also as it will be next to her skin for most of the day. We spoke about if the text was written on her garment what that means in terms of audience reaction and interaction with the work. The text is a type of camouflage over her as if she is an embodiment of a sort of message or fluid movement of words. I Think this is interesting to consider in terms of a collaboration as she is literally wearing my work and then her work is moving mine. They are completely intertwined. Two pieces; so influenced by the other that at this point one can't be removed. Within her performance she will be using 10 metres of paper to interact with the text, write parts out as she says them and move the words visually. However, this is more strictly in line with her own practice than the audible aspect she will be adding to the exhibition. We also discussed the fact she will be the only person in the gallery, therefore, when viewers enter it is her that they see first. It is her they interact with possibly however I feel it would almost be 'out of character' for her to respond in a usual manner and not continue the performance. This is something however that she can work with at the time and investigate. We also discussed the 'How text lives' work as a collective effort and how this may move forward into new spaces. Therefore I plan to make a website for the exposition so we can post the documentation and the artist information. We also discussed the concept of the poster which I will be making tomorrow. this is needed for promotion and circulation to gain interest.
