17th April- PROCESSIONS Plannings/brainstorming
17th April-
PROCESSIONS Visual Plannings/brainstorming
I produced three initial watercolor designs when thinking about the Procession project. When I made these I was thinking about celebrating the past but also looking to the future. As although we have had the vote for 100 years there are so many people who have not. This is interesting as it means that so many people are still in a oppressive situation. I think it is important for us to use our position to help these individual and raise awareness. However, I also think it is important for the banner to be simple and bold. A 'crafted' sense to the work.
With the above Idea I was considering the ways that time can change so much. The women's rights movement started in 1848 and we are still struggling today to gain equality. This shows the way that process is made slowly and with a force of committed people.
My third idea was aiming for a 'patchwork' type of vibe that combines all the places where it is difficult for women to vote still or impossible. I also used the Norwich city slogan of 'A fine city'. This to me is a banner with a few issues however as us calling ourselves 'A fine city' already suggests the idea that we are in some way higher or part of a better place. This isn't what I wish to impose and something that can be very ill considered.
