Days focus and principle-
I attended this event as part of my personal planning work. My aim was investigate the role on the whole while also speaking to those in that sector. Although this is important for personal planning it also allows me to piece together the educational system more generally and the way in which artists can function within it. Although I do not want to be a teacher I have considered many times the concept of being a type of facilitator. An individual that bridges the gap between education and the arts as this is ever reducing in the educational system. The government are not at all meeting the need and responsibility to make education and children's experiences with the world more creative. This is due to the fact that they are aiming to raise workforce robots that are compliant. Free thinking often stems from viewing the world or having the ability to view the world in a different way. One thing that stems from creative education.
I have previously done a placement in this position and although it was rewarding I felt as though I was babysitting and picking up other jobs on the side apart from designing the educational transition into creativity. I want to be able to develop my own practice and theology deeply before applying it to to others. I think it is important to be doing work such as this however I think that simultaneously, the artists working to do this could also combine forces to show that there is a community that are not willing to stand by and let the arts become a private matter.
The second half of the day was much more beneficial as the first was very slow and I didn't understand the aim of it. We were in a museum setting describing objects, this juvenile task seemed pointless to me. Especially as someone who practices, researches and is active in this field daily.

Days focus and principle-
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, Norwich
Friday 27 April, 10:30am - 4pm
Free but booking essential
What do gallery educators do on a day to day basis? What kind of audiences do they work with? What methodologies do they use to ensure that people have inspiring learning experiences through art? We're delighted to have partnered with the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art to put on a day of workshops and talks that will provide practical advice and guidance to anyone thinking about a career in arts education.
We will explore approaches and methodologies, and situate the field within historical contexts, in relation to art practice, institutional developments and social and political agendas.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet with gallery educators and artists, take part in practical activities, meet peers and find out more about professional development opportunities.
