Today I was pleased to take part in the WOW festival in norwich. The Woman of the world festival is run with amazing panel speakers, workshops and activities. This weekend is an amazing opportunity for progressive discussion as well as female empowerment. I was thrilled to see so many young girls there with parents or working on the event showing people where to go.
I was there with Processions, a collaborative project I am currently involved in. This project is nationwide and in association with artichoke and 1418NOW (https://www.processions.co.uk/). The longer I am involved the better I feel about the work being done and the important nature of it. This sort of work//projects are not only empowering to the people involved but they also start to embark on the re-ignition of a cultural flame. The day itself was a very busy combination of processions work and printing work. As I have print experience I got involved helping the public and also was very involved in the organisational side of the day. Explaining to people what we were up to and why aswell. The why in this is so vital so people understand our group stance on celebrating the vote while also making a stand for those who don't have it or face inequality when trying to access it.  We ran felting workshops for the public and it was amazing to see so many people creatively engaging. So many adults were very willing and active getting involved in the work. It is difficult to reflect on the day as there were so many different interactions taking place. These interactions, as I often reflect on, are all part of the collaborative process. Knew people got involved with the banner making and we asked people to embroider hidden messages on the back, these messages were done in black, over the black material. These hidden message were mimicking the messages that were written in the cells of the suffragettes. These messages of solidarity  would then be seen by the next people in the cell, often another female activist. We also finalised the idea for the t-shirt prints that will be happening next week. i designed these and drew out the plan for the shirts. These will be made to wear on the procession. This shows unity and extension of the collaborative process.
