Social Art Summit Application
Title- Our World: Their words
Type of participation- Visual art
Description/Concept-

The government's actions and decisions impose on all of our identities. On your individual and our collective identity, as a country and a species. This work would encapsulate historical tradition of using banners to present thoughts, feelings & truths. However, with a modern and blatant twist, they would contain quotes/pages from government documents tracking the climate downfalls of our age. These banners would boast a mixture of text and visual pattern to stimulate the viewer. Hanging at a range of heights to bring this information directly to the event. This information is available freely online however is rarely used and quoted. Society have a right to be part of our planet's future however it is being ever economised. Each individual will be affected as a result of the information, actions and shortcomings in these documents, therefore they deserve to engage with the information in a less formal and daunting manner than through government documentation. This work aims to do this and explores the way in which material can be used outside of protest and to further progression. Versions of this work have been trialed at Firstsite Colchester, Yallops Gallery Norwich and rural/domestic environments. The work will be presented alongside the documents it represents so the viewer can also read the inspiration for the works. This aspect is important so that the message does not become stale after viewing. The concept of these banners is to ignite action and conversations, through this sense of community a better chance is built to work against the corrupt destruction of our environment.

Laura Potts// short Biography- (Final year student at Norwich university of the arts//Regular writer for
The Norwich radical)
I feel that hope is something so vital and important that even though we are aware
of the current failures in society, the hope is what disallows their success. Within art
and through other praxis sharing this hope is my main aim. Sharing a passion for
progression across disciplines. Harbouring conversations and bringing information to
people in creative and effective ways.
